Programs

CAGP programs and services focus in four main areas: Education, Health, Economic Development and Advocacy. Our programs and services include:

After School Program

After School Program (ASP)

ASP is a long-running after school program with an enrollment of 30 young achievers aged 5 to 12. Youths engage in various after school activities, such as: homework help, arts and crafts, and trips. More than just any after school program, ASP incorporates cultural education into its curriculum and activities. Students learn about Cambodian culture, as well as various other cultures richly embedded in Philadelphia's communities. The goal of the program is to enhance and supplement education through cultural, social and language arts activities. If you are interested in enrolling your young achiever in the After School Program for the September 2011 - June 2012 school year, please contact:

Eddy Sacksith at eddy@cagp.org, or call our South Center at 215-389-0748.

Summer Camp Program (SCP)

At CAGP, we believe that education is imperative for children to grow, even if it's summer! Through the Summer Camp Program, instructors and camp counselors use a blend of social, academic and cultural components to engage and educate participants. As part of a "Healthy Eating, Healthy Living" initiative, we are incorporating the "Olympics" theme to promote various physical activities as a form of exercise. The Summer Camp Program promotes learning in a diverse array of fun activities, field trips and projects to enhance and enrich their academic pursuits and teach social responsibility. Currently, the program has reached its maximum enrollment of 30 participants fo Summer 2011. If you are interested in enrolling your young achiever for Summer 2012, please contact:

Eddy Sacksith at eddy@cagp.org, or call our South Center at 215-389-0748.

Stay tuned, as applications will soon be available online!

Parenting Enrichment Program

PEP is a 12-week parenting education program funded by the School District of Philadelphia's Parent University. Language and culture can be a barrier between parent and child, therefore, our bilingual and bicultural program instructor tailors class materials and instruction to meet the needs of Cambodian-American parents. The program helps parents develop and enhance those parenting skills that foster parent-child relationships. The goal is to reinforce support parent behavior, and alter non-productive/harmful behaviors. Through PEP, parents can expect to work towards understanding child development, practice alternative approaches to child rearing, and stress-reducing techniques to enhance parental functioning. Sessions run September to May. For more information, please contact:

Putery Long at putery@cagp.org or our North Office at 215-324-4070.

Case Management

Case management is an ongoing service funded by the Department of Human Services that connects Cambodian-American families to individual support and counseling. Our Case Managers are in the homes, working directly with children, parents and older adults on various issues that effect their well-being: education, truancy, delinquency, health and medical needs, interpretation/translation, etc. Through the Delinquency Prevention Program at DHS, we provide service to at-risk youths facing truancy, school dropout, and delinquency. Youths are ages 10-17, chronically truant but have not been adjudicated in Family Court. Case managers serve as advocates and interpreters/translators. Though most cases are referred to our agency, we also provide walk-in assistance at both our North Office and South CenterFor more information, please contact Putery Long at putery@cagp.org or Cindy Suy at cindy@cagp.org.

We also provide walk-in assistance Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 9:am to 5:pm.

Cambodian Cultural Program

Culture preservation is an essential component to educating the Cambodian culture to Cambodian-American youths and society-at-large. The program offers Khmer dance classes and Khmer language classes to children and youth between 5 and 21 years old. Khmer dance classes focus on the traditional Khmer art of song, dance and storytelling, as folk and cultural arts are an important part of the heritage. Classes are intensive, as Khmer dance is slow and features a ballet-like dance art form. Classes run from September to June, providing participants with the opportunity to perform at various special events throughout the year. Participants regularly perform at the agency's Annual Cambodian New Year Celebration and the Asian Heritage Month Celebration.

Khmer language classes are also offered on Sundays at this time and location. Volunteer instructor, Chantha Chum, donates two hours a week to help interested youths and other community members learn how to read, write and speak the Khmer language.

For more information, please contact Putery Long at putery@cagp.org or the North Office at 215-324-4070.

Legacy

Legacy Project

The Legacy Project engages youth and older adults, in an attempt to bridge the generational gap. Over several months, participants meet regularly to implement the project and have decided to showcase their work in the form of: a documentary video, a community garden, and a cultural cookbook of Southeast Asian recipes that promote health eating. The cookbook features stories told by older adults and documented by youths, as well as family recipes and photos. The purpose of this project is to elicit engagement between youth and older adults, encouraging one to educate the other. For more information, please contact Chanphy Heng at chanphy@cagp.org or Sarun Chan at sarun@cagp.org.
